Part one: Vicente Amigo Septet

Vicente Amigo

Many other great, contemporary guitarists - such as Pat Metheny - rate Vincente Amigo as Spain’s number one six string strummer. Following in the footsteps of his elder, Paco de Lucia, he has contributed to the worldwide mainstreaming of flamenco as a musical genre, as shown through his collaboration with such diverse musicians as Milton Nascimento, Al Di Meola and John McLaughlin.
His strong musical personality has allowed him to soak up other musical influences whilst remaining deeply flamenco oriented. His style is powerful and varied whilst remaining fluid and light. Whilst soloing, his guitar becomes so expressive and reaches such ethereal heights of beauty and fluency that you can only agree with the Spanish when they say he has the ‘duende’ – the gift from God. His last album, “Paseo de Gracia” was rated by critics and fans alike as a peak of flamenco perfection. But perhaps the real peak will be reached in Patrimonio, inspired once more by the phenomenal beauty of the setting.
After all, Vincente is no newcomer to Patrimonio and holds the festival’s record for the amount of ‘encores’ at the end of a show (six). Indeed, the main concern for this guitarist tends to be how to get him off the stage when the audience won’t allow it.

With him : 2nd guitar: José Manuel Hierro. Percussion: Patricio Cámara, Paquito González. Vocals: Miguel Ortega. Rafael de Utrera. Bass: Juan Manuel Ruiz. Violin: Alexis M. Lefêvre

Part two: Biréli Lagrène Trio

Biréli Lagrène“He must be amongst the World’s top three guitarists” once declared John McLaughlin. With Birelli Lagrene one finds an enviable combination of extraordinary technique, a deep and wide musical culture - which he willingly draws upon - as well as exceptional levels of inspiration, meaning that you never quite know where he’s going to take you next. The list of European and American jazzmen he has accompanied is really quite impressive (including Jaco Pastorius) and he is clearly comfortable playing a wide variety of styles. Unequalled when performing in the gypsy style of his origins he is also difficult to match when playing bop, making him a real Charlie Parker of the guitar World. He has also been seen playing a piece of Paganini that is notorious for being unplayable on the guitar! According to his close musician friends, Birelli is not entirely human…

Diego Imbert was a violinist before becoming a master of the double bass. His immense abilities in the realm of adaptation and improvisation make him the ideal accomplice for Bireli, who, let’s face it, does take some following …

Hono Winterstein is one of the most in-demand rhythm guitarists in the manouche world, as his powerful, incisive yet subtle accompaniments tend to inspire the soloists to new heights.
