Part one: Trio Madeira Brasil
The Trio Madeira Brasil, comprising of Ronaldo do Bandolim with Marcello Gonçalves and Zé Paulo Becker is what you might call a ‘supergroup’ as it consists of three of Brazil’s finest guitar soloists. They’ve joined forces to make this trio whose repertoire is highly varied, being an amalgam of three distinctive styles. And it is their virtuosity and musical instinct that allows this unique melting pot to sound so coherent and fresh. Aside from pieces deriving from the grand masters of Choro, they (re)interpret music from very different musical horizons, including classical and even some Scott Joplin ragtime. After having heard them deliver, the audience will no doubt second this statement made by Davis Hepner of Guitar Player Magazine (USA): “The Trio Madeira Brazil is a huge step in the history of Brazilian music”

Part two: Alceu Valença Grupo
He is one of the very foremost figures in Brazilian music today and over the last three decades he has consistently attracted huge crowds to his shows. He’s also responsible for popularising Pernambuco rhythms. How to describe his music? That’s a tough call as he’s not the sort of musician you can pigeon hole, such is his varied style. Nonetheless, much of what he does is anchored in the themes and rhythms of the ‘Nordeste’ region, his homeland, to which he has incorporated influences from the World over. And whilst his music has many modern attributes, it remains essentially accessible and staunchly Brazilian, thus it’s as singable as it is danceable. His lyrics will conjur up images of a city quarter, a market, a beach, the scent of a woman or even a flower. His music is multi-coloured and invigorating, splashing the listener with the joys of life and really makes you want to get up and strut your stuff.
